The Grand Depart in Normandy - by Coach
The 2016 Grand Depart returns home, to France, to the manche region of Normandy. The world’s most famous cycle race - The Tour de France - starts at one of the country’s most famous tourist attractions, the majestic Mont St Michel. There’ll be plenty of thrilling racing action to see, breathtaking scenery and we hope to see some of our own champion cyclists competing again. On day two, you will visit the Mont-Saint-Michel to see the start of The Grand Depart as the riders embark from the foot of the gothic-style abbey with a 188-kilometer (116.8-mile) stage to Utah Beach Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, where Allied forces landed on D-Day during World War II. On day three, there will be a second thrilling day of racing in Saint Lo as this time the riders pit themselves against each other in a race to the finish from Saint-Lo to Cherbourg-Octeville, a thrilling 182-kilometer (113-mile) ride over varied terrain. After the start of the race you can spend the rest of the day at leisure in Saint Lo or take our optional excursion to Bayeux.
